Assistant Professor

Department of Medicine

I am an Assistant Professor in the Lung Biology Center of Department of Medicine at UCSF and am also a

bullet

member of Center for Bioinformatics & Molecular Biostatistcs (CBMB) which is a center providing statistical support for molecular, genomics and genetics data, and

bullet

associate director for bioinformatics of the UCSF NHLBI Shared Microarray Facility.

My research concerns the application of statistics to problems in genomics and molecular genetics.  In particular,  my research work has centered on the development of statistical methodology and software for the design and analysis of gene-expression data from microarrays.

I obtained a bachelor’s degree in statistics from the University of Sydney in Australia and then spent a year working in the Image Analysis Group in the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CMIS, Australia).  After that, I began my doctoral studies in the Department of Statistics at the University of California, Berkeley where I worked under the supervision of Terry Speed on the design and analysis of cDNA microarray experiments.
